The North is about to welcome cold air, with mountainous regions dropping below 10 degrees.

The forecast from the evening and night of March 18 indicates that cold air will begin to affect the Northern region, subsequently spreading to the North Central region. The weather will turn cold and rainy, with some mountainous areas experiencing moderate to heavy rain.
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting reported that a portion of cold air from the North is moving down to our country.
It is predicted that around the night of March 18, this cold air will affect the northeastern part of the North and some places in the northwest North.
From March 19, it will influence other areas in the northwest North, North Central region, and some places in the Central North Central region. The wind will shift to the northeast at level 2-3 inland, and level 4-5 in coastal areas.
Due to the influence of the cold air, from March 19, the Northern region will turn cold, and from the night of March 19, the North Central region will also turn cold.
During this cold wave, the lowest temperature in the Northern region will generally range from 15-18 degrees, in mountainous areas from 12-15 degrees, and high mountainous regions may drop below 10 degrees. The highest temperature will generally range from 21-23 degrees, with high mountainous areas below 20 degrees. In the North Central region, the lowest temperature will generally range from 16-19 degrees, with the highest temperature from 22-24 degrees.


Also due to the influence of the cold air, from the night of March 18-19, the Northern and North Central regions will have showers and scattered thunderstorms, with some areas experiencing heavy rain.
From the afternoon of March 19, there will be rain, showers, and thunderstorms in the area from Quang Binh to Phu Yen. In the rainfall and thunderstorms, there is a possibility of whirlwinds, lightning, hail, and strong gusts of wind.
At sea, from the night of March 18, in the Gulf of Tonkin, the wind will shift to the northeast and gradually increase to level 6, sometimes reaching level 7, with gusts of level 8, strong waves, with heights of 1.5-2.5m.
From March 19, the North East Sea will have northeast winds gradually increasing to level 6, sometimes level 7, with gusts of level 8-9, strong waves, with heights of 2-4m.
This cold snap is expected to last for 2-3 days in the Northern and North Central regions, after which the temperature will gradually rise, and the weather will shift to have light rain, drizzle, and fog appearing in the evening and early morning, with humid conditions.
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting assesses that in the coming time, the cold air tends to weaken in intensity, and in the second half of March 2024, severe cold will only occur sporadically in the northeastern mountainous areas. However, the phenomenon of light rain and drizzle in the Northern region will continue to be more frequent than the average in the second half of March 2024.
From April, the cold air will act weakly, and the likelihood of severe cold and frost will decrease, with light rain and drizzle also gradually decreasing and occurring only on a few days in the eastern coastal area of the North.
