The Hanoi Traditional Dress Tourism Festival 2024 will take place from October 4-6 at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel - Hanoi, gathering traditional dress brands from the three regions of Vietnam.
At the press conference on August 27, Nguyen Hong Minh, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Tourism, informed that the key activities of the Hanoi Traditional Dress Tourism Festival 2024 will occur from October 4-6 at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel - Hanoi. This is a special event in a series of programs celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of the Capital (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024), which promises to attract public attention, bringing the image of Vietnam and the traditional dress to a large number of tourists and international friends, promoting Hanoi as a "Safe, Friendly - Quality - Attractive" destination.
The opening ceremony of the Hanoi Traditional Dress Tourism Festival 2024, themed “Hanoi - The Essence of Ao Dai”, will take place in the evening of October 4 at the Doan Mon Square - Thang Long Heritage Conservation Center - Hanoi. The program will revive a part of the image of the capital Hanoi with 70 years of history through various performances, dances, and fashion shows; showcasing the image of Hanoi - a heroic and resilient capital, courageous in combat, continuously innovating, developing, and integrating in the present phase.

This year's Traditional Dress Festival is organized by the Department of Tourism, The Hanoi Women's Union, The Hanoi Youth Union, and relevant units, including: A cycling parade program “Traditional Dress Connecting Tourism and Heritage 2024", the "Check in Hanoi" challenge with traditional dress; A design competition for traditional dress aimed at students, the "Ao Dai Dance" challenge, City Bus experiences in traditional dress, and the Ao Dai Month program...
Key activities will include the opening program themed “Essence of Traditional Dress”, depicting a part of the image of Hanoi's 70-year history, with traditional dress as the central image; a comprehensive artistic program featuring folk dances and the Ao Dai carnival "Hanoi Women Integrating and Developing"; and the artistic program “Ao Dai Night” with the participation of 70 designers from the North, Central, and South regions.
Nguyen Hong Minh, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Tourism emphasized that the series of events at the Hanoi Traditional Dress Tourism Festival 2024 will contribute to honoring and preserving the unique cultural beauty of Vietnam’s traditional dress; making the traditional dress an impressive souvenir product for international tourists visiting Vietnam. The festival is also a source of creative inspiration for designers and a playground and opportunity for experience and exchange for students in design.
Ms. Hoang Thu Hong, Head of the Propaganda Department, Hanoi Women's Union stated that a key activity of the festival is the Ao Dai Carnival taking place on the morning of October 5 at the Thang Long Heritage Conservation Center - Hanoi and some nearby streets. This is a large-scale comprehensive artistic program featuring folk dance performances and parades aimed at spreading the love for traditional dress to masses of people, friends, and international tourists of all ages and genders. This program will be organized in 579 communes, wards, and towns in Hanoi.
Since the beginning of the year, Hanoi has implemented many groups of tasks and solutions to restore tourism development, creating motivation for socio-economic development of the capital and the country. In the first 8 months of 2024, Hanoi is expected to welcome and serve about 19 million tourist arrivals, an increase of 12.3% compared to the same period in 2023 (including about 4 million international visitors; 15 million domestic visitors). The total revenue from tourists is estimated to reach about 74 trillion VND.
In recent years, Hanoi has been honored by many media organizations, receiving numerous awards. For two consecutive years, 2022 and 2023, Hanoi was awarded the title of Top City Tourism Destination in Asia and the World by the World Travel Awards Organization. The Trip Advisor website ranks Hanoi among the 25 famous destinations to visit; 20 destinations for food lovers. The Travel magazine lists Hanoi among the top 10 most beautiful destinations in Southeast Asia.../.
